Wednesday, July 28, 2010--Please be aware that identity theft artists continue to prey upon consumers, and if you're not careful, you could be victimized. In recent days, callers identifying themselves as representatives of area financial institutions have initiated phone calls and text messages to randomly selected consumers alleging that their ATM/Debit cards have been inactivated and requesting that they provide their card number, personal identification number (PIN) and other confidential information to re-activate their cards. THIS IS A SCAM intended to steal customer information, and consumers should not, under any circumstances, provide this confidential information.
If you receive a similar request, DO NOT disclose any information regarding your account and PIN numbers. Representatives from Anderson Brothers Bank will NEVER ask you to disclose this secure and confidential information. In addition, please report any of these attempts your financial institution or to law enforcement authorities. If you receive a similar phone call and can capture the phone number of the incoming call, please do as this will assist law enforcement efforts to apprehend these scam artists.
If you have received such request and have given the caller your account number, PIN or other confidential information, please contact your financial institution immediately.
